“The dragonfly sees the world through compound eyes — reminding us that perspective is everything.” — Unknown
I wasn’t expecting company. I was moving through the brush looking for something to shoot when this dragonfly landed on a twig about three feet in front of me and just stayed there. Wings out, eyes forward, completely unbothered.
I raised the camera slowly, half-expecting it to bolt. It didn’t. It just stared. We were at it for a solid minute — me trying not to move, it apparently having no plans to go anywhere. I got the shot, but honestly I’m not sure who won that exchange.
What got me most in post was those eyes. Up close, they’re this metallic blue-green, almost like polished glass. The wing venation came out sharp too — every cell visible. That’s the reward for staying still long enough to let the subject forget you’re there.
